Solution ID: prim26668
User is required to enter a new password at next login, but can log in without receiving such a prompt.
Status: Reviewed
Version(s): 10.0, 9.0, 9.1, 9.1i

Fact: Expedition Professional 9.0, 9.1, 10.0, 10.1
Fact:

The version of J2RE required by Expedition varies per version:

  • Expedition Professional 9.0 – Java 2 Runtime Environment 1.4.1_02

  • Expedition Professional 9.1 – Java 2 Runtime Environment 1.4.1_02

  • Expedition Professional 10.0 – Java 2 Runtime Environment 1.4.2_04 through 1.4.2_06

  • Expedition Professional 10.1 – Java 2 Runtime Environment 1.4.2_07
Problem: In Administration, User Accounts, User Account checkbox ‘Requires new password at next login’ is selected.

User attempts to log in to Expedition, but is not prompted to change password.

Cause: Expedition Professional is finding a newer version of the Java Runtime Environment on the client workstation than it used by Expedition.  In order to intercept the login and prompt for a new password, the appropriate version of Java must be installed.
Fix:

  1. From the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel, uninstall all unnecessary versions of the Java 2 Runtime Engine.

  2. Log in to Expedition to allow the appropriate version of Java to autoinstall.  (Alternately, the J2RE installer can be found on the installation CD or java.sun.com)

  3. From the Internet Options control panel, uncheck the option to “Use Java 2 version 1.4.x_x for <applet>” on the Advanced tab.  (This allows other applets written for different version to access the appropriate version of Java without affecting Expedition Professional)
